Okay, if it weren't for my newest piece of technology, I would have been admitted to a looney bin last night. My sleek little ipod nano, which holds so many files, kept me level-headed and calm through all the screaming and crying. Let me fill you in....
Once upon a time, Elli learned how to roll over. She worked on it for days and finally mastered the art of rolling from her back to her tummy...no easy task. She began to love her new freedom and realized all that she could see and grab while on her tummy. What a wonderful little life she was leading. Until...night came. As her beautiful caretaker, Abigail, (that would be me...and yes, I am WAY beautiful by the end of the day! ;o)) put her to bed on this particular night, Elli was very drowsy and ready for a full night of resting and peaceful dreams. As she was placed lovingly in her crib, Elli began to nod off but her body being in auto-pilot from her new talent, instantly rolled her over. This position wasn't what she was used to for sleeping, so she began to cry. Abigail would then roll her back over, insert her binky, and tuck her in (which would all suffice her on a normal night) but once again, her body would spring back onto her tummy. This went on for 5 or 6 rounds before all seemed hopeless, so Abigail and her pet dragon Steffen, (there has to be a dragon in every fairy tale) left the room and let her cry. After 10 or 15 minutes, little Elli fell asleep and would stay that way for an hour or so and then the whole process would start over again.
OH GROSS!!!!!!!! ELLI JUST PUKED ALL OVER ME AND MY HAIR. BE BACK IN A MINUTE.
Okay, Elli just had a bath and I just took a shower. Poor baby, I don't know what's wrong. She probably didn't like me talking smack about her, so no more story time.
Anyway, back to my tribute to my ipod and the point of this post. Each time Elli would wake up, we would soothe her a little while and then let her cry herself back to sleep so she can learn how to do it on her own. Well, listening to her cry just kills me, so I would pop in one earphone of my ipod and listen to some podcast shows until she'd go back to sleep and then eventually I'd go back to sleep. And then a couple hours later it would start over. This happened all night long. Thankfully, listening to my ipod was enough of a distraction to keep me from going absolutely insane. There was nothing more we could do for Elli. I couldn't rock her to sleep first and then lie her down because she would immediately roll to her tummy. I couldn't pat her to sleep while on her tummy...nope, she hated that. We just had to let her roll to her tummy and let her cry. It was frustrating. But I listened to some good shows. Anyone have an ipod?? Well, podcasts are these free little news shows or talk shows sponsored by ipod and there are so many different topics to choose from. Anyway, I upload 2 programs, "Mommycast" and "ManicMommies". Both are funny and entertaining and easy to relate to. All the shows are mommy and kid related and they talk about a lot of the things I am going through right now. I hightly recommend them for mommy info. One of the shows puts out a program once a week and the other one does one every couple of days. I figured out that one of the ladies on Mommycast is mormon.(they don't talk about religion...just a few things she has hinted towards.) She's hilarious. Anyway, last night, they saved my sanity. However, I listen to a program every night anyway while feeding Elli. It helps me to stay awake and not fall asleep in the chair. I was doing that every night for a while and I was so frustrated because I would wake up an hour later with a stiff neck and a sleeping baby who didn't eat on both sides. Oh, I also like listening to a program while doing the dishes or cleaning or anything. It helps with the monotony. I just put one earphone in so then I can still hear Elli if she wakes up from her nap or something.
So, THANK YOU APPLE IPOD (nano) FOR KEEPING ME SANE!! ELLI THANKS YOU TOO!!!!!!! And my pet dragon, Steffen! ;o)
Anyway, here's some pics of Elli sleeping on her tummy. I put her down for a nap and the same "roll to her tummy" happened. So this is after about 15 minutes of crying. She finally went to sleep.

Don't worry, I checked.....she's still breathing. This tummy thing actually worked well this morning. She slept for 2 hours, while normally she only sleeps for 45 minutes. (Or maybe she was just worn out from last night.) We'll see, hopefully she'll get the hang of it.
Also, here's a video of poor Elli getting frustrated. She's kinda tired too, so it adds to the fussiness. But you can see her rolling over like a pro. During the day when she's not tired or hungry, she'll roll to her tummy and just play. Unfortunately I don't have a video of her "happy" tummy-time so here's some "grumpy" tummy-time. It goes along nicely with the story though! :o)
Anyway, this post has gone on way too long. Hope you have enjoyed the story of our day more than we have. Just had to give a shout out to Apple for a great and user-friendly product. YAY FOR MY IPOD!!
Love you guys! Time for another nap for Elli. We'll see how it goes.
